*There will be a benefit ride on Saturday, July 19th to support Hospice of Southern WV.  The ride/line-up will begin behind Sears at Crossroads Mall in Beckley.  Registration at 10am, ride will begin at 11am.  For more info call 304-573-6310.

The Corbin Story Fund is having a memorial fundraiser: Shots for the Heart, on July 19th at L&S Shooting Range in Caldwell, WV. All proceeds go to The Corbin Story Fund in honor of a baby boy named Corbin who passed away from heart defects at three months old. Donations go toward education and awareness of congenital heart defects, to run a local child loss support group, and to help fund congenital heart defect research. For more information on how to donate, visit or

Open Heart Ministries of Bluefield, WV, will serve spaghetti dinners on Friday, July 25th, with proceeds going to its homeless haven. Call 304-323-2551 to reserve a dine-in or call-out dinner.  Dinners will be served from 11am-4pm from the Internet Café at 415 Federal Street in downtown Bluefield, WV.  Local deliveries are available. A $7 donation is requested.  Dinners include spaghetti and meat sauce, side salad, garlic bread, soda and dessert.

*Open Heart Ministries, serving the needs of area homeless, will hold a fundraising car wash Saturday, July 26th, at the Advance Auto Parts store at 3160 East Cumberland Road in Bluefield, WV.  Open Heart Ministries volunteers will wash cars and trucks from 10am-4pm with supplies furnished free of charge to the ministry by Advance Auto Parts.

*Bluefield College will join 23 other Virginia private colleges in a statewide series of open house events, July 28th-August 2nd, designed to increase awareness of the quality and affordability of a private college education.  Rising high school juniors and seniors and their families are invited to participate in Virginia Private College Week by attending at least one of the open house sessions at Bluefield College.  BC sessions will take place twice a day at 9am and 2pm, Monday through Friday, July 28th-August 1st, and once at 9am on Saturday, August 2nd.  Register at For more information, visit​.

*Vespers Healing Service at First Christian Church, located at 805 Straley Ave in Princeton, WV on Wednesday, July 30th, beginning at 6:15pm.  If you are in need of a special touch from the Lord, this is an oportunity to be renewed in spirit, body and mind.

The "Terror of the Tug" play takes us back to McDowell County in the early 1920s when Sheriff Sid Hatfield and Deputy Ed Chambers were shot and killed on the Welch Courhouse steps. This is what sets the mood for the rest of the play which is an account of the events that had occurred during the Coal Wars in Southern West Virginia.  This intense historical drama has been brought back by popular demand and has been praised by many to be a must see outdoor drama! Reenactment will take place at the Welch Courthouse on Friday, August 1st at 10:30am, the actual day and time of the shooting.
